Indira Gandhi Agricultural University is an Agricultural University which is also an autonomous, non-profit, research and educational institute which is working for the up-liftment of farmers residing in Chattisgarh. This Public University was established on 20th January 1987 in Raipur. The main aim behind the establishment of Indira Gandhi Agricultural University is to provide a fresh aspect of the major agricultural development in Chattisgarh known as the “Rice Bowl”. The activities of this University are education, research and education which are imparted through agriculture, veterinary, dairy and agricultural engineering faculties and Directorates of instruction. This University receives financial aid from ICAR, State Government and international agencies.
This University provides world-class facilities to the students though its great infrastructure. The University library – “Nehru Library” has a total collection of 60,000 books along with thesis and periodicals. Each of its constituent college and research station too has its own separate library. Moreover, Indira Gandhi Agricultural University also encourages providing scholarship to the bright students, Rs 1500 to 1800 is given to approximately 5 to 7% students. Partial and full scholarships are awarded to some students.
