Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs) have a key role in developing India’s economy. The industrial sector requires manpower; and ITIs, on their part, impart technical education to the youngsters. After completion of the courses, the aspirants are able to fulfill the industry demands.
All Indian states have several ITIs that are managed by the Union Government of India. Additionally, the privately-run training centers are referred to as Industrial Training Centers (ITCs); these institutes conduct vocational training as well. Both ITIs and ITCs are considered to be post-secondary schools in India.
Presently, the count of ITIs in the Indian states and union territories is 11,964 and 9680 respectively. The aspirants have more than 130 trades (engineering and non-engineering) to select from.
Under the National Council for Vocational Training (NCVT) supervision, the admission process of the government-run ITIs is conducted. The duration of the different courses varies, from 6 months and can go up to 2 years.
The primary aim of the ITIs is 70% skill building and 30% theory. Every year, during the month of August, the admissions in the ITIs commences. To be eligible, the candidates have to fulfill the eligibility norms, pertaining to age and educational qualifications.
The eligibility criteria for the varied courses include the candidate to have cleared their 8th, 10th, or 12th standard exams.
Some states conduct a state-level entrance test and based on the candidates’ scores, the ITI authorities prepare the merit list. Yet, other states take into account the candidates’ marks in the qualifying exams and accordingly, draw the merit list.
As part of the ITI programs, the students have to undergo 1-year Apprenticeship training as well. Thereafter, they have to pass the All India Entrance Test (AITT). If they clear the test, they are granted the National Trade Certificate (NTC) that is recognized both on a national and international basis.
The privately-run agencies admit candidates as per their own rules and regulations.
An education portal, onlineresultportal.com, contains the latest updates, announcements, counseling dates, and important notifications concerning the ITIs. Also, on the site, all information that is related to the ITI results is displayed, as seen on the official websites.
