Establishment of pioneer engineering colleges such as Assam Engineering Institute and Assam Engineering College was the beginning of Technical Education in the state. Directorate of Technical Education, Assam was established in the year 1960. Now at present there are 4 Government Engineering colleges and 10 private polytechnics under the Directorate that impart technical skills to the aspirants. The main aim of imparting technical education to the students is to support economic growth, human development and social well being with the help of modern technology.
To get admission to various engineering and non engineering courses Assam, PAT is the gateway. The Directorate of Technical Education Assam, (DTE) administers and conducts all the activities of PAT Assam. The eligibility for the students is they must be 10th passed from the Board of Secondary Education Assam, or from any other recognized board of education.
The selection of the candidate is based on the scores obtained by the candidates in the Assam Polytechnic Examination. On clearing the exam they need to attend the counseling session after which they can choose their desired course and polytechnic. Students can submit their application form online through the official website http://dteassam.in. From here they can download the application form, check their results, get their admit cards etc.
