About Nalanda Open University
The Nalanda University in the state of Bihar is the only university in the state that offers education through the distance learning mode. Located in the capital city Patna, it was established in March, 1987, and is named after the famous ancient university of the country. At present it operates from Biscomaun Bhawan , Patna and has the fully equipped office spreading in the area of 60,000Sq.feet. It is also recognized by the Distance Education council (DEC), UGC and Ministry of HRD, Government of India, for imparting education through distance mode.
It has opened 28 study centers around Bihar and Jharkhand and some of the important cities and towns of these states catering education needs of every section of the society. Any eligible person can apply for admission to his choicest course and can obtain the prospectus through the Demand Draft of Rs. 300 from the sales counter of the university. The courses offered by the university include Ph.D, MCA, MBA, BBA, BCA, Post graduated diplomas and certificates in various science and arts subjects. Each course consists of theory as well as practical examination where written examination carries 80 marks and practical is of 20 marks. The examination in written part of each theory paper is of 3 hour duration and apart from few courses students may choose to answer either in Hindi or English medium.
