The year 2008 marked the establishment of the University after the then Haryana Government had passed the Pandit Bhagwat Dayal Sharma University of Health Sciences Rohtak Act, 2008. The college has been named after the legendary Bhagwat Dayal Sharma 1918–1993, who had been the first Chief Minister of Haryana.
