This University was established at Ambikapur, Chattisgarh and was incorporated by Chhattisgarh Vishwavidyalaya Adhiniyam No. 18 of 2008 on September 2, 2008. This University was established so that it takes up the responsibility of imparting higher education in the Sarguja region especially for the tribal people and the deprived section of the adjoining areas.
Sarguja University covers affiliation jurisdiction to administrative/revenue districts to every states of Chattisgarh, it also includes Sarguja, Surajpur, Korea, Jashpur and Balrampur.This University provides affiliation to its 66 constituent colleges. Sarguja University runs undergraduate and post-graduate programmes of various faculties in subjects of Bachelors of Arts, Science, Commerce and Education. Here, Sarguja University also runs one undergraduate programme under the faculty of engineering in its college which is located in Lakhanpur. This University other than the Bachelors of Engineering programme does not run any undergraduate course at it campus or through other constituent college.
