Shreemati Nathibai Damodar Thackersey Women's University or SNDT Women’s University is one of the first women universities not only in India but in the South-East Asia. It was university was founded by Maharishi Dr. Dhondo Keshav Karve in 1916 with the vision of women education. It has its headquarters in Churchgate Campus Mumbai and other two campuses at Juhu and Karve Road, Pune. It has its affiliated colleges at Maharashtra, Assam, Uttar Pradesh Bihar, Madhya Pradesh, Surat and Goa as well.
Today it is one of the premier universities of India with the enrolment of over 70,000 students with 39 university departments and 15 faculties. There are 174 undergraduate colleges and 8 institutions recognized for Ph.D. degrees. It continues to manage three secondary schools for girls as well which it had inherited. It is the first university in the state to obtain five-star ratings from National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) of Indian in the year 2000 and was reaccredited with A grade in 2015. The university has its collaborations and partners as well which include University Grant Commission UGC, UNICEF, British Council, Association of Commonwealth Universities and Swedish International Development Agency.
