Shri Jagannath Sanskrit Vishwavidyalaya also known as Shri Jagannath Sanskrit University is established on 7th July 1981 on the holy land of Lord Jagannath – Puri at Orissa. The creation of this University is the long-cherished dream of Sanskrit lovers of the State and moreover it was established to promote Sanskrit language throughout the State. This University holds recognition from the University Grants Commission (UGC) and is accredited with “B” Grade by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC). The University offers undergraduate and postgraduate courses (Upashastri and Shastri courses) under the departments of Advaita Vedanta, Dharmashastra, Jyotirvigyan, Nyaya, Sahitya, Sarvadarshan, Veda, Vyakarana and Siksha Shastri. There are more than 75 colleges which are affiliated by Shri Jagannath Sanskrit Vishwavidyalaya.

This University is also involved in various research works and its research unit - The Centre of Advance Research in Sanskrit (CARS) has outstanding research excellence.
