Jharkhand is comparatively a new state which was formed in 2000. It is not only a hub of industrial activities but slowly became an education hub as well with a great increase in literacy rate. Students here begin their education at the age of five with free and compulsory education is available till the age of 14 years. Every school is affiliated to the state board of secondary education, CBSE or with ICSE. The state has constituted Jharkhand Academic Council (JAC) which comes under the HRD Department of the Government of Jharkhand. It is responsible for holding and conducting examinations of Intermediate Education, Secondary, education, Sanskrit Education and for the Madrasa Education. The state government has also take a major step by promoting national education scheme Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan to promote the elementary education from the grass root level.
