The Maharashtra State Board of Secondary and higher Education is a statutory and autonomous body which was established under the Maharashtra Secondary Board Act in 1965.It conducts both the HSC and SSC examination in the state through its nine divisional Boards located in Pune, Nasik, Latur, Kolhapur, Aurangabad, Mumbai, Amravati, Nagpur and Ratnagiri.
The board conducts examinations twice a year. Around 14 lacs students appear for HSC and 17 lacs appear in SSC. There are about 21,000 schools for conducting SSC and 7,000 for conducting HSC examinations throughout the state. The results of the examinations are declared in the month of June.
