Sikkim Education Board
Located in the laps of mighty Himalayas, Sikkim is one of the seven sisters and of the panoramic states of North East. Over the last couple of years northeastern states are not only making headlines in tourism but in education sector as well. The literacy rate of the state is 82% which is indeed a commendable achievement for the state. At present the state of Sikkim boasts more than 1500 Government schools, 471 private schools and 12 colleges imparting education at different levels.
The state of Sikkim does not have an autonomous State Board of Secondary Education and Senior Secondary Education and thus the state has to wholly dependent on the CBSE Board. Directorate of School Education and Administration deals with school administration responsibilities such as maintaining links between all district offices, Mid Day Meals, National Literacy Mission etc.
There are numerous esteemed schools in the state that are either affiliated to CBSE ICSE which is the main reason of a great boost to the education standards in the state. Both 10th and 12th class examinations are organized by the CBSE or ICSE Board annually in the month of March to April.
