There are 36 locations in India that hold the ITI exams, as conducted by the NCVT. For the 4 semesters of the ITI courses, the exams are conducted during the months of February and July / August.

Under the category of engineering and non-engineering trades, there are several options of ITI courses that you can opt for. But, bear in mind that the eligibility norms for the different courses vary; and you must apply accordingly. Furthermore, the programs include a 1-year Apprenticeship training program where the trainees get a stipend every month. To successfully complete the trade programs, the pupils have to clear the All India Trade Test as well.

The successful candidates, then, receive the National Trade Certificates (NTCs). Thereafter, they become eligible to apply for jobs. Besides, the pupils who complete the 2-year ITI programs are eligible for gaining lateral entry to the 2nd year of the Polytechnic courses that run for 3 years.

The technical courses are governed both at the national and state level. The National Council of Vocational Training (NCVT) is responsible for drawing the policies governing the trade programs at the national level. Besides, the State Council of Vocational Training (SCVT) works to implement the NCVT guidelines while working at the state-level.
