BEd Exam Eligibility, Application Form, Exam Pattern, Admit Card and Exam Result 2023

The Bachelor of Education Entrance Exam (B.Ed. Entrance exam) is conducted by the different universities in the various Indian states for admitting aspiring candidates into the varied colleges that offer education courses. Aspirants can gain admissions in the Bachelor of Education (BEd) and Bachelor of Physical Education (B.Ph.Ed.) courses upon qualifying the BEd entrance examination.

To become a teacher in pre-nursery or primary or nursery or secondary or senior secondary schools, or become a professor in the various colleges or universities, the aspirants have to obtain the required qualifications.

The B.Ed. degree is a professional bachelor’s degree required for pursuing teaching as a profession. Note that the BEd degree is not an undergraduate degree and aspirants have to complete their graduation for pursuing the BEd programs.

Upon successful completion of the 2-year BEd program, the candidates can secure jobs in schools at teacher positions.

The BEd course can be pursued in both regular and distance education modes.

Different colleges vary in the BEd course fees, depending on the varied parameters like type of institution (whether public or private) and mode of teaching (regular/distance)

Several fresh graduates take up teaching jobs while pursuing the BEd course.

Presently, securing a BEd degree is mandatory to teach in primary and high schools. Some students get a Bachelor’s degree and Master’s degree and then pursue BEd courses for teaching Class 11 and Class 12 pupils. In other cases, they opt for integrated BEd courses or BEd courses after securing a graduate degree.

The National Council of Teacher Education lays down the standards for the BEd course curriculum and the education system in India. 

BEd Exam: Eligibility Criteria

  • Educational Qualification

To be eligible for the BEd program, the candidates should complete their graduation in a relevant stream (including Arts, Science, and Commerce). Nonetheless, the reputed BEd colleges invite candidates to apply only if they secure 50-55% aggregate marks in their graduation exams.

  • Age Limit

Though most colleges do not have any age criteria to apply to the BEd courses, yet some BEd colleges have a lower age limit of 19 years.    

B.Ed. Entrance Exam: Syllabus

The BEd course curriculum is structured to help the candidates become familiar with all aspects of the teaching profession. Teachers have to deal with children hailing from different backgrounds and cognitive abilities. Hence, they are given training on creating an environment for learning that is conducive for students hailing from all walks of life. 

The BEd curriculum includes a range of subjects. These include General Knowledge and Mental Ability, Numerical Ability, knowledge of English, aptitude for teaching, and language proficiency.

BEd Entrance Exam: Pattern

The BEd entrance exam contains objective-type questions, where the candidate is given multiple answer choices and has to select the correct one. The number of questions and marks for each question differs from university to university. However, the basic format of the exam is the same for the majority of the universities and educational institutions.

The BEd entrance exam evaluates the applicants on the following subjects:

    • Numerical Ability: (15 questions, 15 marks)
    • General Knowledge and Mental Ability: (15 questions, 15 marks)
  • English: (15 questions, 15 marks)
  • Teaching Aptitude: (15 questions, 15 marks)
  • Language Test: (15 questions, 15 marks)

For incorrect answers, the candidate’s marks are cut to be tune of 25%.

B.Ed Admission Process & Entrance Exams

The admission process of BEd courses varies from university to university. And depending on the university the candidate is applying to, they have to follow the given instructions to apply. Accordingly, they have to prepare for the Common Entrance Test that is conducted at the university level or state level for admission into the different education courses.

Many universities accept online applications for the BEd entrance exam. The aspiring candidates have to browse the official website of the stipulated university to download the application form and follow by furnishing the requisite details. The Application Fee is payable as well. Also, the applicant should take a print copy of the ‘Confirmation’ page that the system displays after application submission.

The selected candidates are called for the counseling rounds and allotted seats as per the protocol. Then, they have to visit the given college for completion of the admission procedure.

Most colleges and universities admit students as per their performance in the entrance exam. In most institutions, the applicants are required to attempt questions from two or three sections.

The first section of the exam assesses the language proficiency of the applicants, while the other sections evaluate their domain knowledge and reasoning ability.

After completing the BEd course, the candidates can apply for teacher positions in schools at primary, secondary, and senior secondary levels in both public and private schools across India.

 However, they must also give the Teacher Eligibility Test (TET) to become Assistant Professor or Professors in colleges or universities.
