Puducherry Teachers Eligibility Test (TET)

Towards the Southern part of India lies Puducherry – an Indian union territory. The Directorate of School Education that comes under the Government of Puducherry is the appointed body for conducting the state-level Puducherry Teachers Eligibility Test (TET) in Puducherry. The purpose of Puducherry TET is to recruit teachers at levels such as the Primary (classes I-V) and Upper Primary (classes VI-VIII) ones, for teaching in private and public schools across Puducherry. The aspirants can apply for Puducherry TET through the official website, https://schooledn.py.gov.in/.

Puducherry TET consists of 2 papers that include Paper-I and Paper-II. Paper-I is relevant for aspiring candidates who want to teach Primary Level classes. And Paper-II applies for those applicants who want to teach Upper Primary Levels. Also, the aspirants have the option of applying for both Paper-I and Paper-II if they want to become eligible to teach classes I-VIII.

The applicants who qualify Puducherry TET get the ‘Eligibility Certificate’ that makes them eligible to apply for teacher vacancies in government-managed and privately-managed schools across Puducherry for 7 years.

Keep in mind that qualifying Puducherry TET does not bestow rights on candidates of Employment but is only an eligibility criterion for teacher appointments.

Puducherry TET: Eligibility Criteria

For Paper-I

The candidate is required to pass the Senior Secondary exams, having scored minimum 50% aggregate marks. Moreover, they must have passed the 2-year Diploma in Elementary Education or the 4-year Bachelor in Elementary Education or the 2-year Diploma in Education (Special Education). If they are appearing for the final years of these courses, then also they can apply.

The aspirant is required to secure BCom/BSc/BA degrees and has to pass or be pursuing the 2nd year of the 2-year Diploma in Elementary Education

Or

They should have a BA/BCom/BSc degree with minimum score of 50% aggregate marks. Further, they must have passed or be pursuing the 1-year Bachelor in Education course.

Or

They must obtain a BSc/BCom/BA degree with at least 45% aggregate marks and have to pass or be pursuing the 1-year Bachelor in Education (Special Education) program.

Or

They have to clear 12th standard exams with minimum 50% aggregate marks. Also, they should have passed or be appearing for the 4th year of the 4-year BAEd or BScEd courses.

Puducherry TET: Application Process

The Puducherry TET aspirants have to submit their applications via the official website to appear for the exam. Before starting the application process, they must study the given instructions on the site by clicking on the ‘Notifications’ tab. Next, they have to register by furnishing the required information (such as valid email address and mobile number), following which they receive their login credentials via email address.

The subsequent step is to log in to their accounts and, then, download the Online Application Form that they have to fill in. After filling in the application form, they must proceed by uploading their documents – including scanned copies of photograph and specimen signature. As part of the application process, they must tender the application fee via the various modes of payment (such as Credit Card / Debit Card payment and Net banking) as well.

Thereafter, they have to review their applications, after which they must submit their applications by selecting the ‘Submit’ option. They can, then, view the ‘Confirmation Page’ on the screen and they must maintain a print copy of the same for reference purposes.

Puducherry TET: Admit Card

The Puducherry TET authorities process all applications and, then, the eligible candidates receive their Admit Cards. Through the official website, the candidates have to download their respective Admit Cards. The applicants have to click on the ‘Download Admit Card’ tab and follow by entering some basic details (like Application Number and Date of Birth). They can, then, view their Admit Cards on the screen and take a print out.

Admit Cards are mandatory to carry to the exam hall for the authorities to confirm the candidate’s identity. The examiners check the Admit Cards and only then allow the applicant to give the exam.
The Admit Card contains details such as candidate’s name, exam venue, and exam date – among others. However, if the candidate notices any discrepancies in the Admit Cards, they have to notify the authorities who will make the required corrections.

Puducherry TET: Exam Pattern

Puducherry Paper-I and Paper-II have 150 multiple-choice questions (MCQs) each. Also, the score tally of the question papers is 150 marks each, with each question carrying 1 mark. Each question has four options where the candidate can score 1 mark for selecting the right option. Also, if they choose the wrong option, their marks are not deducted.

In Paper-I, the candidates are given five sections that include Language-I, Language-II, Environmental Sciences, Child Studies, and Mathematics. Each section of Paper-I contains 30 MCQs and carries 30 marks.

In Paper-II, there are four sections. These include Child Pedagogy of 30 marks, Language-I of 30 marks, Language-II of 30 marks, Maths & Science or Social Science (for Maths & Science teachers or Social Science teachers) of 60 marks.

Puducherry TET: Exam Result

After the Puducherry TET authorities upload the Merit List and Exam Result, the candidates have to visit the official website for downloading the same. To view their results, they have to select the ‘Download Exam Result’ option and, subsequently, enter some basic details. Upon entering their details, the screen exhibits their results.

To qualify for Puducherry TET, the candidate must score 60% marks. The names of the qualifying candidates are mentioned in the Merit List that is, also, downloadable, from the website.
