The AISSEE was conducted by the Sainik School Society to admit students in Class 6 and 9. For Class 6 students, the exam carries 300 marks in total; and for Class 9 students, the exam totals 400 marks.

Also, the Class 6 entrance examination was set in 3 languages: Hindi, English and the official language of the prescribed state. And the medium of language for Class 9 entrance test was only English.

The School Society announced the AISSEE 2020 schedule which stated that the assessment of the answer sheets will be conducted from January 12-20, 2020. Later, from February 3-7, 2020, the final merit list and call letters will be released.

This year, the Sainik School started admitting girls as well. Previously, only male candidates were offered admission. Girl students got admission in Sainik Schools in Kodagu, Kalikiri, Ghorakhal, Chandrapur, and Bijapur.
