The Graduate Management Admission Council conducts the Graduate Management Admission Test (GMAT). GMAT is for those aspirants who are looking to gain admission to graduate management courses (such as MBA) in the premier global business schools. The universities consider the candidate’s scores in the GMAT exam as part of their admission procedure. GMAT scores are in the range of 200 to 800, having 5-year validity.

The GMAT is a computer-based test that is conducted for assessing the candidate’s proficiency in English and Mathematics. All the same, the applicants are tested in integrated reasoning (30 minutes), verbal reasoning (65 minutes), analytical writing (30 minutes), and quantitative aptitude (62 minutes).

The GMAT exam consists of 80 questions, having a duration of 3 hours and 7 minutes.

  • A 6-month timeline to prepare for the GMAT exam is considered ideal. However, if you are familiar with the GMAT pattern, then dedicated 8-weeks is considered sufficient. In all, start early so you have enough time for revision.
  • The first step is to collect the study material, whether online resources or books. However, only go for the recommended websites or books. Also, you must conduct a SWOT analysis to determine the amount of time to assign to each topic.
  • As a GMAT aspirant, you should become familiar with the computer adaptive structure that is devised to evaluate the candidate’s performance accurately. A question is posed to the applicant and if answered correctly, the level of difficulty of the questions goes up. Thus, the applicant should prepare for all levels of questions.
  • Keep in mind that the first set of questions help to determine the candidate’s aptitude in the computer adaptive system, thus pay close attention to them. Moreover, you score higher for correct answers to difficult questions, as compared to correct answers for the difficult ones.
  • Try to attempt all questions while sticking to the given time limit for each question. Remember practice is key to become adept at time management.

  • Note that your scores in the Analytical Writing section are not added to your numerical GMAT score. Only a score that ranges from one to six is added to your score. The B-schools check the analytical writing score during the selection process. Be smart and quick to answer the questions in this section.
  • The types of questions in the Integrated Reasoning Section include multi-score reasoning, 2-part analysis, graphics interpretation, and table analysis. Give logical conclusions when answering this section.
