IBPS Clerk Exam 2023 – Preparation Tips

The Institute for Banking Personnel Selection (IBPS) is responsible for conducting the IBPS Clerk exam. Subsequently, the selected candidates get postings in the country’s various public sector banks as Clerks.

The banking industry set up the IBPS that commenced operations during the year 1975. Then, in the year 1984, the IBPS started to function as an independent entity and in the process, held exams for recruitments to India’s public sector banks. For a career in public sector banks, the aspirants have to appear for the exams that the IBPS conducts.

As part of a bank clerks’ responsibilities, they are responsible to maintain records in a systematic manner. Moreover, they should be well-versed with mathematical calculations and computer knowledge. Also, there are several types of clerks: Interest clerks, Security clerks, Loan clerks, and Exchange clerks.

During the months November to December, the IBPS exam is held. The aspirants can register for the exams during the months August to September.

The IBPS Clerk exam entails a Common Written Test that runs for 2 hours. The question paper contains 200 objective-type questions, with each question having 5 choices. Also, for incorrect answers, marks are deducted. The applicant has to score minimum 160 marks to qualify for the subsequent rounds.

The five different sections include Computer Knowledge, English Language, Reasoning, Quantitative Aptitude, and General Awareness. Each section carries 40 marks.

Then, the successful candidates have to attend the Personal Interview rounds as part of the selection process.

IBPS Clerk Exam: Preparation Tips

  • Start your preparations 2 months before the exam.
  • Check the entire syllabus and accordingly, chart-out your study time table and ensure to cover all subjects.
  • Consider enrolling for coaching programs if required.
  • Take mock tests for getting sufficient practice.
  • The General Awareness section includes questions on the Banking & Financial industry and Current Affairs. As part of your preparation for this section, make sure that you read many newspapers and magazines to be updated on the latest developments around the world. Additionally, study about banking policies, regulations and policy changes over the years.
  • The Quantitative Aptitude section has questions on number series, time & distance, data interpretation, and profit & loss. To excel in this section, you must make sure to practice solving problems of this section and more importantly, within the given time limit. Note that with regular practice, you learn shortcuts and thus, can solve the problems easily and quickly.
  • The Reasoning section covers topics such as time series, mirror images, and number series. To prepare for this section, the candidates should practice different types of problems that pertain to this section. Also, they can refer to online tests to get more practice.
  • The English section tests the candidate’s proficiency in the English language. To improve your knowledge of English, you must read books, newspapers, and different types of articles. Further, refer to a grammar book to enhance your grammar skills. By doing so, you will learn new words and can increase your vocabulary. Also, a range of online English tests is available to get enough practice.
  • For the Computer Awareness section, you should prepare by studying from computer books and increasing your knowledge of computers.
