In the Indian state of Assam, the Directorate of Employment and Craftsmen Training (DECT) is responsible for conducting the admissions for the ITI courses that are held in the allotted colleges. The various ITI colleges in Assam hold a series of ITI courses. To gain admission to the ITI programs, the aspirants have to clear the entrance exam.

As part of the ITI courses, the students are given training in various technical fields i.e. engineering and non-engineering. In the Assam ITI centres, some trades for which the pupils are trained are fitter, carpentry, bookbinder, and advanced welding, amongst others.

The varied courses have different eligibility, and the applicants are required to apply for the respective courses whilst keeping in mind the eligibility norms. If the candidates are not found to be eligible, their admission will be cancelled.

Generally, the age of the applicants is required to be within the range of 14-35 years. However, these norms are relaxed for some groups of people such as physically handicapped persons or Ex-servicemen.

Also, the educational qualifications of the different courses are known to vary. The courses require the applicants to pass their 8th standard 10th standard or 12th standard.

To apply for the entrance exams, the applicants have to register online. They have to duly fill in the required details in the application forms. Also, they must pay the application fee as well. The various modes of payment are via debit card/credit card/internet banking. All the particulars must be checked thoroughly and only then, the ‘Submit’ button should be clicked. The confirmation page will be displayed on the site; the applicants must take a printout of the same.

Upon receiving the application forms, in due course, the authorities will issue admit cards or hall tickets. The admit cards are accessible from the official website and have to be downloaded after the stipulated date. The candidates have to enter details such as date of birth and registration number to download the admit cards. When appearing for the exams at their respective centres, the applicants have to produce these documents to confirm their identity.

On the scheduled date of the exam, the aspirants have to appear for the entrance test as per the schedule. After the exam results are declared, successful candidates have to attend counselling sessions.

During the counselling sessions, the aspirants have to carry along the required documents for verification. Thereafter, the aspirants have to fill in their choices of colleges.

Then, the ITI authorities will prepare a merit list based on the candidates’ performance and allot seats in the respective colleges. The applicants have to report to the allotted colleges within the given deadline. If they fail to appear, their admission stands as cancelled.
