Emory University was incorporated in the year 1836 and is the second-oldest university in the list of oldest institutions in the United States. The University started as a medical faculty, the Emory Unit, in the year 1917. Also, the University would admit only male students previously. Intending to encourage student participation in extra-curricular activities, the University also started the SILT (Student Involvement, Leadership, Transitional) initiative. As part of this program, pupils have about 500 organizations to help develop their leadership and coordination skills.
