CBSE 10th and 12th Exams 2019 Requirement: 75% candidate attendance record

The CBSE board exams are scheduled to start from February 15, 2019, onwards. Also, new measures have been introduced this year as part of the CBSE board exams – including two-level mathematics, changes in marking schemes, fewer number of questions, among others.

From this year onwards, the candidate is required to hold 75% attendance record. Only then, they can appear for the 10th and 12th standard examinations that the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) conducts.

As per the CBSE directive to all schools, the attendance of students is to be calculated. And only those pupils who have secured 75% attendance as on January 1, 2020, will be permitted to give the CBSE board examinations. The students who have secured less than 75% attendance cannot appear for the exams.

Only eligible students will receive their respective Admit cards. And to be eligible, the candidates must hold minimum 75% attendance record. The names of candidates who have less than the mandatory attendance will be submitted to the regional offices. Subsequently, a final decision will be taken by the relevant authorities by January 7, 2020.

In cases where a student has a valid reason for attendance shortage, they will need to give supporting documents by January 7, 2020. The circular further states that the authorities will not consider any cases after the given deadline. Also, the standard operating methods for calculating attendance have to be adhered to by the respective schools.

Several other new changes have been introduced in the CBSE exam pattern. Henceforth, the question papers will contain 33% options, with more questions testing the thinking skills of the students rather than rote memorisation.

Further, the theory exams will bear 80 marks and not 100 marks (as per the earlier pattern). The rest 20 marks are reserved for internal assessment for subjects that have no practical exams.

The candidates have to clear both theory and practical examinations to qualify the exams. And they must secure 33 per cent marks to pass the exams.
