The year of establishment of Oriental University (OU), which is situated at Indore in India’s Madhya Pradesh state, is marked to be 2011. Previously, OU was known as the ‘Oriental Group’ that was given recognition of a leading educational society in Central India and ranked in the national rankings as well. Founded by the Devi Shakuntala Thakral Charitable Foundation (DSTCF) that is located in Indore, OU is the first private university to be set up in Indore. Also, the University is the first self-funded, private higher educational institution in the city. Shri K. L. Thakral is the University’s founder and chancellor; moreover, he is the founder president of DSTCF.

The various faculties of OU are the Faculty of Pure & Applied Sciences, the Faculty of Engineering & Technology, the Faculty of Education, the Faculty of Commerce & Management, and the Faculty of Pharmacy.

OU offers an array of Bachelor’s, Master’s, doctoral, and diploma courses. The University has programs in several disciplines such as medicine, engineering, arts, management, science, commerce, mass communication, law, information technology, and agriculture science & technology.
