IBPS Specialist IT Officer Exam – Preparation Tips

The responsibility of conducting the IBPS Specialist IT Officer exam lies with the Institute for Banking Personnel Selection (IBPS). The exam is conducted for recruiting candidates for the Specialist Officer cadre posts in the country’s various Public Sector Banks (PBCs). Out of the 10 Specialist cadre positions, the one for Information Technology is included. Also, the two Specialist IT Officer cadre posts include Scale-I Specialist IT Officer and Scale-II Specialist IT Officer.

If applying via the general category, for the Scale-I Specialist IT Officer, the candidate has to be between the ages 20-30 years; and for Scale-II Specialist IT Officer, the candidate’s age has to be between 20-35 years.

In 1975, the banking industry formed the IBPS with the aim of filling the different vacancies in the PBCs. However, in 1984, the IBPS started functioning as an independent entity. Since then, the Institute discharges all duties of employing candidates in the PSBs. These include conducting the Common Written Test (CWT) and subsequent Personal Interview rounds.

The IBPS Specialist IT Officer exam is conducted in February and entails a CWT and Personal Interview. Now, only if the applicant successfully clears the CWT, they are called for the Interview rounds.

The 2-hour CWT has 200 questions that carry 1 mark each, taking the total to 200 marks. Negative marks are given for incorrect answers.

The question paper contains four sections, with 50 questions each. These include Reasoning (50 marks), English (25 marks), Quantitative Aptitude (50 marks), and Professional Knowledge (75 marks).
