Some states conduct a state-level entrance test and based on the candidates’ scores, the ITI authorities prepare the merit list. Yet, other states take into account the candidates’ marks in the qualifying exams and accordingly, draw the merit list.

As part of the ITI programs, the students have to undergo 1-year Apprenticeship training as well. Thereafter, they have to pass the All India Entrance Test (AITT). If they clear the test, they are granted the National Trade Certificate (NTC) which is recognized both on a national and international basis.

The privately run agencies admit candidates as per their own rules and regulations.
